MAZ Targets Purchase of 2.2 Million Tonnes of Maize During 2026 Marketing Season
The Millers Association of Zambia (MAZ) says its members are targeting the purchase of 2.2 million metric tonnes of maize during the 2026 crop marketing season to support growing demand in the milling and stock feed sectors.
MAZ President Andrew Chintala said the maize procurement exercise is intended to support stock feed production, meet local mealie-meal requirements, and satisfy export market demand.
Mr Chintala disclosed that the buying exercise commenced last month, with active participation from stakeholders across the maize value chain.
He said the large-scale procurement initiative is aimed at ensuring a reliable supply of maize for millers and related industries, while contributing to stability in the country's food production and distribution systems.
Mr Chintala expressed confidence that the exercise will help sustain production levels and maintain adequate maize stocks throughout the marketing season.
