President Hichilema Honours 16 Zambians at Africa Day Investiture
President Hakainde Hichilema has honoured 16 individuals for their distinguished service, achievements and acts of gallantry at an investiture ceremony held at State House to mark Africa Freedom Day. Speaking at the event, the President urged leaders to focus on delivering development, jobs, peace and opportunities for Zambians as the country joined the continent in commemoration.
Among those recognised, former Cabinet Minister Ackson Sejani received the Order of the Eagle of Zambia, Second Division, posthumously. A four-term Member of Parliament with over 32 years of public service, Mr Sejani also served as Chairperson of the Local Government Service Commission.
Media personality and global health advocate Karen Nakawala received the President's Insignia of Honour for her cervical cancer advocacy. As founder of Teal Sisters, she has led awareness campaigns and support programmes for patients across Zambia and beyond.
The President also honoured Kapelwa Sikota, Zambia's first indigenous nurse, who championed improved working conditions for African nurses during the colonial era. Elizabeth Sianga received the President's Insignia for Meritorious Achievement for advancing food production through solar-powered farming and training more than 10,000 young farmers via digital platforms during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Luapula musician Edward Mpundu, leader of Knack Unity, was recognised for songs promoting peaceful civic participation, including 'Babufi'. Rosemary Ngulube of Petauke was honoured for sheltering freedom fighters during the independence struggle, enduring arrest, assault and torture for her bravery.
Ludanzi Boarding Secondary School also received the President's Insignia for Meritorious Achievement for its broiler production unit supporting learners' meals.
