Lusaka City Council Delivers 121 New Classroom Blocks Through CDF
The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has constructed 121 classroom blocks across the district between 2022 and 2025, significantly expanding access to education in the capital.
LCC Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba said that during the same period, the council also procured 19,971 desks for the newly constructed schools, ensuring that pupils have the facilities they need to learn in comfort and dignity.
Speaking to ZNBC News, Ms Mwamba said the combination of new classroom blocks and additional desks had played a major role in reducing overcrowding in schools across the district, a challenge that had intensified following the return of large numbers of children to the classroom under the free education policy.
She explained that the projects were financed through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), with priorities determined directly by the communities themselves. This community-led approach, she noted, has ensured that resources are directed to the areas of greatest need, reflecting the broader aim of decentralisation: putting decision-making power into the hands of local people.
Beyond education infrastructure, Ms Mwamba said the council had also rehabilitated more than 144 roads through grading and gravelling during the period, improving access and connectivity for residents and supporting local economic activity.
The developments highlight the growing impact of the enhanced CDF, which has become one of the central pillars of service delivery at local level. Ms Mwamba said the council remained committed to delivering quality infrastructure that responds directly to the needs and priorities of the communities it serves.
