Southern Bishops Commend Government Development Efforts
The Bishops' Council of Zambia in Southern Province has expressed appreciation to President Hakainde Hichilema and the Government for development programmes that have improved the lives of citizens across the country.
Speaking during a courtesy call at Mukuni Palace in Kazungula, Presiding Bishop Maureen Kabwe acknowledged a number of reforms that have benefited communities, including the free education policy. She noted that such initiatives have created opportunities for ordinary Zambians and contributed to wider social progress.
Bishop Kabwe pledged the Church's continued support for programmes that promote national unity, peace, and prosperity. She reaffirmed the Council's commitment to working alongside traditional leaders and the Government in advancing peace, morality, justice, and national development, describing the three institutions as partners rather than competitors.
The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss the evolving role of faith and tradition in public life. Bishop Kabwe emphasised that cooperation across these spheres remains essential to building cohesive communities and supporting long-term national priorities.
For its part, the Mukuni Royal Establishment called for stronger collaboration between the Church and traditional leadership in promoting moral values and community development. Mukuni Royal Establishment Prime Minister Patrick Maleke said that the Church and traditional leaders share a responsibility to address the challenges affecting communities and to nurture shared values rooted in respect, integrity, and service.
Both sides agreed that continued engagement between the Church, traditional authorities, and Government would help reinforce a culture of dialogue and shared purpose across Southern Province.
