President Hichilema Arrives in Mansa for Luapula Investment Expo and Solar Power Plant Commissioning

President Hakainde Hichilema has arrived in Luapula Province for a series of key engagements aimed at boosting investment and accelerating energy development in the region.

The Head of State touched down at Mansa Airport at 09:30 hours, where he was warmly received by Luapula Province Minister Eng. Nason Musonda, alongside senior government officials, local leaders and members of the UPND provincial executive.

President Hichilema is in Mansa to officially open the Luapula Investment Expo 2026, an event that has attracted a strong line-up of domestic and international investors. The Expo is showcasing the province's considerable economic potential across key sectors including agriculture, tourism, mining and energy, and is expected to generate fresh commercial partnerships and investment commitments for the region.

During his working visit, the President will also commission the Mabumba 50-Megawatt Solar Power Plant, a major milestone in Zambia's ongoing drive to expand renewable energy capacity and strengthen electricity supply across Luapula and the wider grid.

Once operational, the Mabumba plant is expected to enhance power generation, support local industry, create jobs for Luapula residents, and contribute meaningfully to national energy security. It also forms part of the wider government strategy to diversify Zambia's energy mix beyond hydro and build a grid that is stronger, more resilient, and fit for the decades ahead.

President Hichilema is expected to return to Lusaka later today following the day's engagements.
