President Hichilema Pays Tribute to UNZA Student
President Hakainde Hichilema has expressed his deepest condolences following the death of Emmanuel Bwalya, a second-year student in the School of Humanities at the University of Zambia.
In a statement released by State House, the President described the loss as a profound tragedy — for Emmanuel's family, for the University community, and for Zambia as a whole.
"Emmanuel was a young Zambian with a bright future ahead of him," the statement read. "His loss is truly a tragedy. A tragedy for his family, his fellow students, and to the nation at large."
The President extended his sympathies directly to the Bwalya family and called on the wider University community to grieve with restraint and dignity. He urged students to respond to the moment through dialogue rather than conflict, emphasising that the challenges facing the University of Zambia and other higher learning institutions across the country required calm and collective resolve to address.
"No further loss is acceptable," the statement continued. "No family should ever receive this kind of news again."
The Head of State appealed for unity, asking that the tragedy serve as a catalyst for lasting solutions rather than further division.
The President asked all Zambians to keep the Bwalya family in their thoughts and prayers.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
