ZCCM-IH Launches Ambitious Tree-Planting Programme Across Zambia

ZCCM Investments Holdings (ZCCM-IH) has embarked on an ambitious environmental sustainability drive, setting a target of planting 9,000 trees across the country this year.

The initiative is already underway, with 1,000 trees planted across nine schools in Chief Chibwika's area of Mwinilunga District in North-Western Province.

ZCCM-IH Head of Risk Mwaka Mwamulima said the programme forms part of the company's broader commitment to long-term environmental stewardship. Speaking during the planting exercise in Mwinilunga, Ms Mwamulima explained that the initiative aims to promote conservation, enhance biodiversity, and cultivate a sense of environmental responsibility among young Zambians.

Schools have been deliberately chosen as focal points for the programme, she said, with the aim of equipping pupils with practical knowledge of climate change, afforestation, and sustainable land management practices.

Ms Mwamulima reaffirmed ZCCM-IH's commitment to supporting communities in Mwinilunga and pledged to continue building partnerships with traditional leaders to advance shared development goals.

Chief Chibwika welcomed the initiative, describing the tree-planting exercise as both timely and beneficial to the chiefdom. The traditional leader's endorsement underscores the importance of collaboration between corporate stakeholders and local communities in addressing environmental challenges.

The programme reflects a growing recognition among Zambian companies of the need to integrate sustainability into their operations, with ZCCM-IH positioning itself as a leader in corporate environmental responsibility.
