Paramount Chief Mpezeni Appeals for National Unity at 2026 Nc'wala Traditional Ceremony

Paramount Chief Mpezeni has made a passionate call for national cohesion, invoking the enduring principle of One Zambia, One Nation during the 2026 Nc'wala traditional ceremony — one of the most significant cultural celebrations of the Ngoni people.

Speaking through a statement delivered on his behalf by Chief Mnukwa of Chipangali at a fundraising dinner held in Petauke, Eastern Province, the Paramount Chief stressed the critical role that cultural heritage plays in binding Zambians together. He called on all those gathered for the ceremony to embrace and actively promote the country's rich traditions, which he described as central to national identity and social harmony.

The Paramount Chief also reaffirmed his dedication to maintaining a constructive and cooperative relationship with the sitting government, signalling his continued support for collaborative efforts between traditional leadership and the state in advancing the nation's development agenda.

In a similar vein, Chief Mumbi of Petauke District echoed the call for solidarity, urging Zambians across all walks of life to move with a shared sense of purpose in preserving and advancing cultural values. He emphasized that unity of direction is essential if the country is to fully harness the strength of its diverse traditions.

Petauke District Commissioner Martha Mulenga reinforced these sentiments, noting that the government of President Hakainde Hichilema places significant value on the preservation and promotion of Zambian culture, recognising it as a vital pillar of national development and cohesion.
