DEC Set to Announce Major Asset Recoveries

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) will soon announce the recovery of major assets as part of the law enforcement agency’s ongoing financial crime investigations.

The assets, which include land and properties that were purchased using criminal cash, have been seized as part of Operation Recovery, which was launched by President Hakainde Hichilema to deliver tangible results in the fight against corruption.

“In Chirundu area, the courts just forfeited properties, we just had the properties taken by the government, and we will be handing them over to the state as DEC. These are big properties, big pieces of land, big buildings which are proceeds of crime,” explained DEC Director General Nason Banda.

“When we get it from you it’s not for the DEC to use, it goes back to central government… to help in solving people’s problems all over the country. Whatever we take goes back to the treasury,” he added.

Mr Banda assured media that all recovered assets will be handled in a transparent manner.
