Traditional Ceremonies Key to National Unity
Vice President Mutale Nalumango has emphasised the importance of traditional ceremonies in fostering national unity, dialogue, and development.
Represented by Local Government and Rural Development Minister Gift Sialubalo at a fundraising dinner in Kitwe for the Ukusefya pa Ng’wena ceremony, the Vice President said the government remains committed to preserving Zambia’s cultural heritage.
Mrs Nalumango noted that traditional leaders are vital partners in governance and rural development:
“We continue to place a high premium on preserving Zambia’s cultural diversity. We consider our traditional leaders not only as custodians of heritage but as key partners in rural transformation,” Mr Sialubalo said on her behalf.
The Ukusefya pa Ng’wena ceremony, scheduled to take place from August 7th to 9th, 2025, is an important cultural event for the Bemba people, celebrating their rich history and traditions.
Mines Minister Elisha Matambo also praised the unity shown by traditional leaders across the country, saying the support of traditional leaders gives meaning to the “One Zambia, One Nation” symbol.
Paramount Chief Chitimukulu’s representative, Richard Mukuka, said he was pleased with the government’s continued support, reaffirming this strong partnership.
