Delimitation Proposal Backed by Chiefs

Lusaka’s traditional leaders have welcomed the government’s proposal to carry out a delimitation exercise ahead of the 2026 elections.

The exercise, proposed earlier this year by government, is planned to help ensure an equitable distribution of resources across the country. Speaking in reaction to the proposal, and on behalf of Seven Chiefs during the Lusaka Council of Chiefs, Chief Mpuka aknowledged that some constituencies are too vast and, as a result, development and support cannot reach everyone. As a result, the delimitation process will help to resolve this issue.

The proposal has also been supported by Local Government Permanent Secretary, Nicholas Phiri, who has commented that the delimitation process, to help delimit large constituencies, should be supported as it will accelerate development and improve the provision of social services, including access to CDF.
