Zambia Allocated 15.7 Billion Kwacha in November for Development, Public Services, and Debt Management

The Ministry of Finance and National Planning released 15.7 billion Kwacha in November 2024 to fund developmental programmes and public services, reflecting a comprehensive commitment to Zambia's socioeconomic advancement. Of the total funds, 3.4 billion Kwacha was directed toward transfers, subsidies, and social benefits. This includes 1.7 billion Kwacha allocated for the Farmer Input Support Programme, 500 million Kwacha for the Food Reserve Agency, and 400 million Kwacha for the Constituency Development Fund, underscoring a focus on agricultural and grassroots development initiatives.

An additional 2 billion Kwacha supported general operations, with 318.5 million Kwacha financing the Cash for Work Programme and 110.7 million Kwacha allocated for geological mapping activities. Capital expenditure received 1.4 billion Kwacha, including 832.6 million Kwacha for road infrastructure projects and 519.3 million Kwacha for projects across various government sectors, ensuring investment in essential infrastructure.

Debt servicing accounted for 4.1 billion Kwacha, with 1.6 billion Kwacha dedicated to domestic debt, 1.2 billion Kwacha to external debt, and another 1.2 billion Kwacha addressing domestic arrears. Meanwhile, 4.8 billion Kwacha covered public service wages, ensuring salaries for health workers, teachers, and diplomats.

Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane emphasised the government's progress in addressing external debt, marking it as a cornerstone for long-term prosperity and sustainability. These financial allocations, aimed at fostering economic stability and enhancing public welfare, illustrate the government's efforts to balance immediate social needs with strategic economic priorities.
