Huawei Donates Covid-19 Medical Supplies

Chinese technology giant Huawei has donated vital temperature measurement equipment worth K500,000 to Zambia in an effort to help the country curb the spread of Covid-19.

The equipment can be mounted at the entrance to a building - such as an airport - and will automatically detect the temperature of those entering. Those with high temperatures can then be inspected for further symptoms of the coronavirus and quarantined if necessary.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka, Huawei managing director Anthony Yu said that national health was everyone’s concern and that the company felt compelled to donate the equipment in order to support the government’s struggle against the coronavirus.

Minister of Health Dr Chitalu Chilufya thanked Huawei for their help in strengthening Zambia’s public health system.

“Huawei is standing with the government this particular period and this shows the true friendship. Huawei is a trustworthy corporate citizen that my ministry can partner with”, he said.

The donation comes as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Zambia continues to rise.

All the patients are currently being quarantined in the isolation unit of Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital and are reportedly in a stable condition.
