Beware Fake Sanitizers!
The Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) has issued a warning that there could be fake sanitizers circulating in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the Bureau, sanitizers should be ZABS certified. However, it has questioned the claims of some manufacturers as businesses look to meet the increase in demand for their product.
ZABS Marketing and Communications Officer for the Bureau, Nzali Chella has warned those found to be making false claims regarding the certification and has indicated that ZABS expects to publish a list of the companies and brands that have been approved in the coming days.
Purchasing fake products could mean consumers are unwittingly spending their money on items such as sanitizers or soaps that are not effective at killing the microorganisms connected with the virus.
President Lungu has already warned businesses against seeking to profit from the outbreak stating, “I have also noted with concern how some businesses have suddenly exorbitantly hiked prices of goods such as surgical masks and hand-sanitizers for no justifiable reason, other than the outbreak of the devastating coronavirus worldwide. I am, therefore, appealing to such businesses to stop profiteering on the back of fear of the calamitous coronavirus.”
