Italy Wakes Up To Life Under Lockdown

Travel is restricted across Italy from today and public gatherings are forbidden throughout the country as strict quarantine measures come into force to fight the spread of the new coronavirus.

The whole nation is on lockdown - with all 60 million people being told they should only travel for work or emergencies.

There's a ban on social gatherings, schools will be shut and cafes and bars will close at dusk.

In the US, Donald Trump will ask Congress to pass emergency economic relief as he tries to fight the outbreak in the United States and provide help to workers hit by the damage the virus has wrought on Wall Street.

Meanwhile, the British government could be facing a race against timeto stop the country following the same deadly trajectory as Italy, experts warned yesterday.
