More Gangs spring up in Kitwe

Despite many efforts to address youth gangs in Kitwe, it has emerged that the number of criminal groups is slowly increasing in different communities.

From Tokota Bots, two new criminal gangs called Sokota and Unruly have been reported terrorising residents of Mindolo Miseshi in Kitwe District.

The emergence of new criminal gangs was announced by residents in the affected area when Kitwe District commissioner Binwell Mpundu addressed a meeting on security concerns

“The most unfortunate discovery is that the number of criminal gangs in our city has actually increased in spite of all the all the efforts to eliminate these notorious gangs,” Mpundu said.

Mpundu recognises, that as a result of such new developments, there is a need for law enforcers to work with the community to end notorious gangs.

“We need the community to be part of efforts to eliminate crime in the area following the numerous complaints I have been receiving of burglaries as well as harassment at the hands of these criminals who have kept residents of Miseshi under seize,” he added.

“The sad part is that members of the community in Miseshi actually know who these criminal culprits are but are scared to disclose their identities. So the challenge I gave them is that they should never cry foul if they don’t do the noble duty of furnishing information to the security wings,” said Mpundu who has since warned parents who are harbouring the criminals that they risk being prosecuted too for “aiding, abetting or otherwise shielding the criminals”.
