Two maids admit stealing Dr Kaseba’s clothes, beer

Two Lusaka maids and a garden boy yesterday pleaded guilty to stealing clothes and beer belonging to former first lady Dr Christine Kaseba.

However, Lusaka magistrate Nsunge Chanda entered a plea of not guilty in respect of the garden boy Zachariah Mulama following his explanation that he was merely given the beer.

It was alleged that Stella Michelo, 45 and Eusibia Malambo, 27 and Mulama, 24, on July 20 stole seven blouses, a dress, and a pack of Heineken, altogether valued at K5,000, the property of Dr Kaseba.

And when they took their pleas, Michelo told the court that she got three tops while Malambo also told the court that she got four.

The duo, however, said Dr Kaseba does not owe them anything and that she did not allow them to take away her items.

Michelo and Malambo also said they did not know what influenced them to steal.
As for Mulama, he explained that he was just called and told to get the beer as it had been given to him.

Magistrate Chanda recorded pleas of guilty against the two maids and entered a not guilty plea for Mulama.

Magistrate Chanda then revoked bond for Michelo and Malambo and said they would be in custody pending reading of facts and possible sentencing and adjourned the case to Thursday.

The court ordered Mulama to also appear on the same day for mention and setting of trial dates.
