EU Congratulates HH, Hails Robust Partnership
The European Union has congratulated President Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election, describing the partnership between Zambia and the bloc as robust and forward-looking.
In a congratulatory letter addressed to President Hichilema, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the relationship between Zambia and the EU is built on a shared commitment to effective multilateralism and a rules-based international order. She said the bloc highly values its collaboration with Zambia on both regional and global issues.
Ms von der Leyen noted that the strong alignment of priorities and interests between Zambia and the European Union presents significant opportunities for increased, mutually beneficial investment and sustainable economic transformation. This convergence, she said, positions both partners to deepen cooperation in the years ahead.
She added that the EU is actively supporting these efforts through its Global Gateway strategy, which aims to mobilise investment in infrastructure, energy and other key sectors to drive long-term prosperity for the people of Zambia and the wider region.
The message from Brussels adds to a growing wave of congratulations President Hichilema has received from world leaders and international institutions since his re-election, reflecting sustained global confidence in Zambia's reform agenda and democratic credentials.
The EU remains one of Zambia's key development and trade partners, and the warm message signals a readiness on both sides to build on existing ties and unlock fresh opportunities for growth, investment and shared prosperity in President Hichilema's second term.
