HH Victory Sparks Nationwide Celebrations

Zambians across the country have taken to the streets in celebration following the re-election of President Hakainde Hichilema in the August 13 General Election.

In Choma, Southern Province, residents braved the biting cold Tuesday morning to celebrate the President’s victory.

On the Copperbelt, Kitwe residents also poured into the streets following the final announcement of the results. A check at Wusakile Roundabout found crowds singing, dancing and celebrating the outcome.

Students at the Copperbelt University (CBU) joined the celebrations after marching to ZNBC Kitwe studios during the night. COBUSU President Given Chipewo said the students were hopeful that Zambia would continue on the path of economic recovery.

At Kapasa Makasa University, students gathered overnight, singing and dancing as they welcomed the announcement. Students’ Union President Gift Siyandwa said learners would continue supporting the President, citing development delivered under the New Dawn administration.

Meanwhile, residents of Mongu in Western Province welcomed the re-election, saying President Hichilema had earned another mandate to lead the country.

Transport workers at Kulima Tower Bus Station also joined the celebrations. Bus Station Chairman Nicholas Banda said drivers, conductors and marketers were happy with what he described as improvements under the New Dawn administration, including free education and changes to the renewal of PSV licences.

Higher learning students and residents of Kabwata Constituency also expressed satisfaction with the election outcome. Students cited increased allowances and government support as helping more learners remain in school.

Kabwata residents, meanwhile, praised the prevailing peace, saying they were pleased by the absence of political cadres and threats.

Across the country, the celebrations marked a moment of renewed optimism as citizens looked ahead to another term under President Hichilema.
