Anti-Corruption Network Poses Four Questions to Mundubile Over K1.5 Billion Road Contracts

The Southern African Network Against Corruption (SANAC) has publicly challenged National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity presidential candidate Brian Mundubile to answer four questions over road contracts worth more than K1.5 billion, giving him until 17:00 on Monday 27 July to respond.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on 23 July, SANAC National Coordinator Christopher Mwenya said the contracts were awarded between 2014 and 2020 to companies in which Mr Mundubile holds an interest, covering Northern, Eastern, Western and Central provinces. He said questions had been raised over advance payments and whether the works were completed, and that they remained unanswered even as Mr Mundubile asks voters to trust him with the national Treasury.

The network asked whether Mr Mundubile, a sitting MP throughout the period, declared his interest to Parliament; whether he would publish the full record of roads, advance payments, kilometres completed and supporting contracts; whether he would visit one of the roads with the press and the residents who use it; and whether he could name a single independent engineer or auditor, from outside the government he served, to verify the works.

"These are not accusations," Mr Mwenya said. "They are questions any citizen is entitled to ask of any person seeking the presidency."

SANAC said it would respond publicly to whatever it received. The Anti-Corruption Commission stated in March 2026 that it had recorded a warn-and-caution statement from Mr Mundubile over the award of the contracts.
