HH Rallies Support As Chisamba Solar Project Is Commissioned

President Hakainde Hichilema says the commissioning of the 100MW Phase Two Chisamba Solar Photovoltaic Project demonstrates the UPND Government's commitment to expanding Zambia's energy capacity and delivering long-term infrastructure.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Kafungalubala Village, Chisamba District, the President said the project reflects the Government's focus on sustainable development, economic management and investment in critical infrastructure.

President Hichilema said the solar plant forms part of the Government's target to increase national electricity generation to 10,000MW, improve energy security, attract investment, support industrialisation and create jobs.

He said the project also marks progress in addressing the effects of drought and power shortages by increasing investment in renewable energy and diversifying Zambia's energy mix.

The President said the commissioning builds on other Government initiatives, including free education, increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocations, expanded social protection programmes and measures aimed at restoring investor confidence.

He noted that the free education policy has enabled more than 2.5 million children to attend school, describing it as evidence of the Government's development agenda.

The President thanked investors, cooperating partners and other stakeholders for supporting the project, saying collaboration between Government and the private sector remains key to accelerating economic growth.

Meanwhile, Central Province UPND chairperson Milner Munakampwe said the project reinforces Chisamba's growing role as an investment and economic hub.

Mr Munakampwe said the solar plant reflects the Government's commitment to infrastructure development and expanding economic opportunities.
