Day One In Northern Province: HH Promises Improved Roads and Electricity Access
President Hakainde Hichilema begun his campaign tour of Northern Province pledging increased investment in infrastructure, transport and economic development ahead of the August 13 General Election.
The President began his engagements in Chilubi District, where he said dividing Chilubi into two districts would bring government services closer to the people. He also pledged to modernise the Chilubi and mainland harbours, improve water transport, rehabilitate roads and complete outstanding infrastructure projects.
President Hichilema urged residents to support his administration and vote for all UPND candidates, saying unity was key to sustaining development.
The President later went to Kaputa District, where he assured residents that the government would upgrade the Mununga-Kaputa-Mporokoso Road. He also announced plans to construct a modern hospital in Kaputa and assured volunteer health workers that they would be recruited before the end of July.
Meanwhile, in Nsama District, President Hichilema promised improved roads, electricity access and Kasaba Bay development.
Addressing a large rally in Nsama, the President said the Kasaba Bay Airport project would soon begin and that the district would be connected to the national electricity grid as part of government’s efforts to expand energy access.
President Hichilema highlighted the increased Constituency Development Fund, saying it had helped many young people acquire skills and create opportunities.
In Mporokoso District, President Hichilema further assured of work on the Mporokoso-Kawambwa and Mporokoso-Kaputa-Mununga roads to improve movement of people, goods and essential services.
The President also highlighted government programmes such as the Free Education Policy and Social Cash Transfer saying development was being implemented across the country.
President Hichilema called on residents of Northern Province to vote for the UPND in the upcoming election, saying continued support would allow the government to advance its development agenda.
