Presidential Candidates Support ECZ Campaign Schedule for 2026 Elections
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has announced that presidential candidates have endorsed a proposed campaign timetable for the 2026 General Election, aimed at promoting well-coordinated campaign activities across the country.
Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka, ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro said the agreement followed a consultative meeting between the Commission and presidential candidates, as well as their representatives.
Mr Kasaro explained that the Commission would release the final campaign schedule later today after considering submissions made during the consultations.
According to the ECZ, the timetable will outline the provinces in which each candidate will conduct campaign activities, helping to minimise scheduling conflicts and ensure a smoother electoral process.
Mr Kasaro further noted that discussions acknowledged the unique position of the United Party for National Development (UPND) presidential candidate, President Hakainde Hichilema, the incumbent head of State. As such, his campaign programme will not form part of the ECZ's official campaign schedule.
However, he said the timetable would serve as an important coordination tool, enabling both the UPND and Government institutions to align President Hichilema's official and campaign engagements with those of the other 13 presidential candidates.
The arrangement is expected to improve organisation during the campaign period while ensuring all candidates are able to carry out their activities effectively across the country.
