CCZ Praises Peaceful Campaign Environment Ahead of Elections

The Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) has described the political atmosphere ahead of the general election as largely peaceful and stable.

CCZ General Secretary Reverend Canon James Phiri told ZNBC News that the Council is closely monitoring the electoral process and has observed encouraging levels of mutual respect among political stakeholders as campaigns continue across the country.

However, Father Phiri expressed concern over the isolated incidents of violence and intolerance reported in some areas, warning that such behaviour could erode public trust in the electoral process and pose a threat to national unity.

He praised the Zambia Police Service for its prompt action against those involved in political violence and intolerance, and urged law enforcement agencies to remain impartial while enforcing the law fairly and without favour.

Father Phiri also appealed to political parties and members of the public to protect Zambia’s peace by rejecting violence and promoting issue-based campaigns centred on national development.
