More than K2Bn Paid Out to Farmers

Access Bank Zambia says more than 2 billion kwacha has been disbursed to over 113,000 farmers since the digital payment platform was activated.

Access Bank Zambia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, IHEANYI NWOGU says this represents a 995 percent success rate on attempted payments.

In a statement obtained by ZNBC NEWS in Lusaka today, Dr. NWOGU adds that the initiative has reduced payment turnaround times, with farmers now receiving payments within 24 hours.

Dr. NWOGU also notes that the initiative supports Government's move to digital payments for the 2026 crop marketing season and is aimed at ensuring farmers are paid promptly for the maize they supply to the FRA.

He explains that the digital platform builds on the Bank's experience in supporting Government payment programmes and reflects its commitment to providing efficient financial services.

Dr. NWOGU said the Bank supported more than 311,000 farmers through its branch network last year.

He adds that lessons from that experience helped develop a system that eliminates manual intervention and enables payments to be processed within 24 hours.

He has further described the initiative as an example of how collaboration between the public and private sectors can harness technology to improve service delivery.

Dr. NWOGU the roll out strengthens Access Bank Zambia's role in supporting the country's agricultural value chain, promoting financial inclusion and advancing digital payment solutions.
