Government Signs Contracts for Nationwide 2MW Solar Power Initiative

The Government has awarded contracts to deliver 2-megawatt (MW) solar power plants in each of Zambia's 156 constituencies under the Presidential Constituency Energy Initiative, marking a significant step towards expanding the country's renewable energy infrastructure.

The programme supports President Hakainde Hichilema's vision of increasing Zambia's electricity generation capacity from the current 3,500 MW to 10,000 MW by 2030, strengthening energy security while meeting growing demand across the country.

Beyond improving access to reliable electricity, the initiative is expected to stimulate local economies by creating an estimated 100 jobs in every constituency. In total, approximately 15,600 employment opportunities are anticipated during the implementation of the project, delivering both economic and social benefits to communities nationwide.
