European Agri-Equipment Giant FPM Agro Mechanic to Open Zambian Plant
FPM Agro Mechanic, one of Europe's largest agricultural equipment manufacturers, has begun establishing a manufacturing and assembly plant in the Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone.
The plant, being built by the family-owned Serbian multinational, is expected to be fully operational within eight to ten weeks. It will assemble agricultural equipment both for use within Zambia and for export to neighbouring countries.
FPM Agro Mechanic Founder and President Mr Ljubinko Gobeljic said the company currently exports agricultural equipment to 65 countries worldwide but has, until now, had no presence in Southern Africa. The new facility marks its first step into the region. He added that the plant would help build the capacity of Zambian farmers, equipping them to increase their yields and improve productivity.
Mr Gobeljic was speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Ministry of Defence Permanent Secretary Mr Maambo Haamaundu in Lusaka this morning.
Welcoming the investment, Mr Haamaundu said the establishment of the manufacturing plant aligns closely with the government's aspirations to diversify the economy away from its traditional reliance on copper production. He noted that the project would create jobs for local people and provide a valuable boost to the agriculture sector.
The investment represents a significant vote of confidence in Zambia's economy and its growing role as a regional hub for manufacturing and trade, supporting both food security at home and export growth across the wider Southern African region.
