Government Releases K48m to Settle ZAMPOST Retirees' Benefits

The Zambia Postal Services Corporation (ZAMPOST) has confirmed that government has released K48 million to pay terminal benefits owed to its retirees.

In a statement issued on Monday by Public Relations Officer Ruth Mwanza, Postmaster General Lydia Simakando welcomed the disbursement, describing it as a significant milestone that restores dignity and hope to former employees who have waited patiently for their benefits.

Simakando said the intervention reflected government's commitment to improving the welfare of Zambians and addressing long-standing obligations affecting retired workers. She noted that the payment aligns with President Hakainde Hichilema's vision of strengthening governance, restoring dignity to citizens and improving livelihoods.

She extended gratitude to the former Minister of Finance and National Planning, Hon. Situmbeko Musokotwane, and the Ministry of Finance for prioritising the release. She also thanked the former Minister of Technology and Science, Hon. Felix Mutati, and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Technology and Science, Engineer Dr Brilliant Habeenzu, for facilitating the process.

The Postmaster General explained that the payment forms part of the third phase of the corporation's efforts to settle outstanding retirement obligations. Disbursements will be made on a first-retired, first-paid basis to ensure fairness, transparency and accountability.

Simakando thanked retirees for their dedicated service and patience, reaffirming the corporation's commitment to working with government and stakeholders to ensure smooth disbursement. ZAMPOST will continue providing updates as further payments are made.
