Zambia’s Situmbeko Musokotwane awarded Africa’s Finance Minister of the Year
Situmbeko Musokotwane, the former Finance and National Planning Minister of Zambia has been named Africa’s Finance Minister of the Year by African Banker magazine.
Government efforts to stabilise the economy are highlighted through Dr Musokotwane’s leadership towards Zambia’s economic recovery, restoration of macroeconomic stability, improving debt restructuring, and rebuilding investor confidence.
Musokotwane received the award at the 2026 African Banker Awards ceremony in Brazzaville, held alongside the African Development Bank Annual Meetings. The award was presented by African Development Bank President, Sidi Ould Tah. Event attendees included African Heads of State, Finance Ministers, Central Bank Governors, development finance institutions, private sector leaders, and multilateral partners from across the continent and beyond.
Dr Musokotwane expressed gratitude for the award, viewing it as a recognition of his efforts as well as of the people of Zambia and the country’s reform journey.
