Treasury Disburses K17.8 Billion in April to Fund Wages, Services and Infrastructure
The Government released K17.8 billion in April 2026 to fund public service delivery, social protection, debt servicing and infrastructure development.
The largest share, K6.6 billion, went to the Public Service Wage Bill, while K2.4 billion was directed to debt servicing and the dismantling of arrears.
A further K4 billion was released for transfers, subsidies and social benefits, including K1.4 billion for the Social Cash Transfer Programme, which supports vulnerable households. The Treasury also disbursed K95 million to the Electoral Commission of Zambia for its delimitation exercise and the settlement of voter registration arrears.
The Constituency Development Fund received K1 billion, and K700 million was released to clear arrears owed to suppliers under the Farmer Input Support Programme. Grant-aided institutions, including universities, received K570 million, while K100 million was allocated to pension obligations under the Local Authorities Superannuation Fund.
A further K3.1 billion was provided for general Government operations and programme implementation, of which K350 million was set aside for the procurement of drugs and medical supplies.
On capital expenditure, the Government released K1.7 billion for infrastructure. Road projects accounted for K758.6 million and the Rural Electrification Authority received K298.3 million. Water infrastructure was allocated K200 million, education infrastructure K150 million, and provincial aerodromes K50 million.
Finance and National Planning Minister Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane said the monthly releases reflect the Government's continued focus on restoring fiscal order and supporting inclusive growth. He added that the Government remains committed to fiscal discipline, transparency, prudent debt management and responsible public financial management as Zambia moves from economic stabilisation towards private sector-led growth and job creation.
The figures were confirmed in a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance and National Planning.
