Hichilema Pledges to Protect and Build on Zambia's Economic Gains

President Hakainde Hichilema has reaffirmed his government's unwavering commitment to protecting the economic stability Zambia has worked hard to achieve, while pledging to accelerate growth and expand employment opportunities across the country.

The President made the remarks during a meeting in Lusaka with Edward Gemayel, the newly appointed International Monetary Fund Head of Mission for Zambia. The meeting provided an opportunity for President Hichilema to reflect on the progress made under the IMF's Extended Credit Facility programme, which ran for 38 months and concluded successfully following six comprehensive reviews.

Expressing gratitude for the Fund's sustained support throughout the programme, President Hichilema signalled that Zambia's relationship with the IMF remains a cornerstone of the country's broader economic recovery strategy. He emphasised that his administration would not only safeguard the hard-won gains of recent years, but actively build upon them to deliver tangible benefits for ordinary Zambians.

The meeting underscores the government's intent to maintain fiscal discipline and investor confidence as Zambia looks beyond its debt restructuring process toward a period of sustainable, inclusive growth. President Hichilema's message, shared via his official Facebook page, signals continued engagement with international financial institutions as a key pillar of Zambia's economic roadmap.
