2026 National Budget Preview

Finance Minister Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane has outlined plans for the 2026 National Budget, emphasising inclusive growth and employment opportunities as the country builds on recent economic stability.

The budget will focus heavily on job creation and expanding opportunities for citizens, according to Dr Musokotwane's pre-budget statement released this week.

The nation is now beginning to see the results of challenging economic reforms implemented over the past four years, the Finance Minister said. He pointed to several positive indicators including a stronger kwacha, returning investor confidence, and accelerating economic growth.

"These gains are not just numbers-they are already improving the lives of Zambians," Dr Musokotwane stated.

The minister argued that sound economic fundamentals are creating the foundation for long-term prosperity by attracting increased investment and generating more employment opportunities.

However, Dr Musokotwane acknowledged that significant challenges remain, particularly the ongoing impact of power shortages affecting the country. Load shedding continues to pose difficulties for businesses and households across the country.

Despite these obstacles, the government remains committed to maintaining the momentum of economic recovery, the Finance Minister assured.
