ZESCO Increases Power Supply for Homes

ZESCO Limited has announced a welcome increase in electricity supply for residential customers, who will now receive six hours of power each day.

In a statement issues 15 September 2025, the utility explained that it had stabilised the electricity system and made further adjustments to ensure that households, industries, and businesses benefit from improved supply.

“On 9 September 2025, ZESCO Limited advised its customers and the nation that power supply was being affected by electricity system instability. Coupled with the ongoing Maamba Energy Limited planned bi-annual maintenance (from 17th August to 21st September 2025), the electricity available to ZESCO to supply its customers was severely hampered. Following concerted work to stabilize the system, ZESCO hereby releases load management schedules for the week 14 to 20 September. Our residential customers will receive six hours of supply daily. Similarly, adjustments have been made to industrial and commercial customers’ hours of supply. Supply to critical segments, such as hospitals and water treatment facilities, remain unchanged,” the statement read.

ZESCO acknowledged that while challenges remain, it is committed to keeping the public informed and ensuring steady improvements in supply.

“ZESCO acknowledges the impact that insufficient electricity supply continues to have on its customers and unreservedly apologizes for fluctuations within the given schedules. The Corporation reiterates its commitment to keeping its customers adequately informed and continues to employ all the possible measures available to it in maintaining steady supply in the middle of these constraints,” it said.

The utility also reassured customers that it will communicate any disruptions caused by faults, vandalism, or theft of equipment through SMS, Facebook, and other media channels.

“Customers are urged to report any outage lasting longer than 24 hours and to help curb the high levels of vandalism and theft by reporting any suspicious activity to law enforcement agencies,” the statement added.

This latest development highlights ZESCO’s continued efforts to strengthen the grid and ensure that both homes and businesses receive reliable power, even during maintenance and system recovery periods.
