World Bank Projects Strong Economic Growth for Zambia
Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwana says Zambia has recorded positive economic growth annually over the past three years, adding that the outlook remains favourable.
Dr Musokotwana was speaking in Lusaka yesterday during the launch of the Zambia Economic Outlook Report. The report stated that the outlook is bright, but diversifying the economy will help reduce risks. It also recognises Zambia as having the potential to utilise its energy transition mineral endowment for growth and economic development.
“This tells us that the future is good, this tells us that we must maintain the policy trajectory that has caused this to happen, of assuring that the budget is managed in a sustainable manner,” said the finance minister of the Report.
Zambia's economy has continued to show resilience despite experiencing energy challenges arising from the drought last year. Economic growth has been driven by a strong recovery in the mining sector, and the government has set its focus on a positive trajectory.
World Bank country manager Achim Fox said, “Real GDP we anticipate to increase this year by 5.8% and with an average growth rate of 6.5% for the years 2026 and 2027.”
