LONGi Green Energy Announces Plans to Invest in Solar Energy

LONGi Green Energy Technology Co, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of solar panels, has expressed interest in developing a 100MW solar power plant in Zambia by December 2025.

According to a statement issued by Ministry of Energy Principal Public Relations Officer Bob Sianjalika, the plans were announced during a call between Energy Minister Makozo Chikote and LONGi executives. During the call, the company outlined its investment proposal and projected a broader strategy to eventually scale up investment to 200MW in Zambia.

Energy Minister Makozo Chikote welcomed the project and highlighted the government’s openness to strategic energy investment to help diversify the country’s energy mix and increase generation capacity. Such investment aligns with Zambia’s goal of adding 1,000MW of capacity to the grid.

‘We are determined to unlock Zambia’s energy investment potential by ensuring a predictable and supportive environment. The timely execution of such projects is vital to our national development agenda,’ stated Mr Chikote.

Chiktote has urged ZESCO Limited and the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) to collaborate closely with LONGi to ensure the necessary regulatory and operational processes run smoothly and quickly.

Meanwhile, LONGi executives have asked the government to help them identify a suitable site for the proposed plant.
