Prices of Mealie Meal and Cooking Oil Drop in Livingstone
Consumers in Livingstone are benefiting from falling prices of essential commodities such as mealie meal and cooking oil.
A 25-kilogram bag of mealie meal, which was previously selling for up to K400, is now retailing at between K300 and K340 across various outlets in the tourist capital. Traders at Dambwa Central and Indeco Markets confirmed the price reduction, noting that the exact cost now varies depending on the brand.
In a similar trend, the price of a two-litre container of cooking oil has also fallen. Previously sold at prices ranging from K90 to K105, the same quantity now goes for between K75 and K85, marking a decrease of approximately K25.
These reductions come as welcome news for households already grappling with the high cost of living. Vendors speculate that improved supply chains and market adjustments may be contributing factors.
Shoppers have responded positively to the price changes, with many hoping that this trend continues in the coming weeks. The lower costs of staple goods like mealie meal and cooking oil are expected to ease some of the financial pressure faced by ordinary citizens.
