Transparency International Zambia Demands PF Explain K31 Billion Missing

Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has raised concerns about the whereabouts of over K31 billion, as the previous Patriotic Front (PF) government purportedly allocated it for fuel procurement.

TIZ Executive Director Maurice Nyable says the PF government must explain the revelations made in the Auditor General’s Report on fuel procurement. The report showed irregularities in fuel procurement costs from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2022, and overpayments to various companies totalling over K882 million. The activities are being treated as fraudulent.

This revelation comes after President Hichilema’s statement today against corruption and abuse of authority following the recent successful debt restructuring deals. In an interview today, Nyable said that the findings are a reminder of the corruption that permeated the previous government for over 10 years.

The official report is available to read here.
