FlySafair Introduces Flights to Mozambique, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

The South African airline FlySafair will be introducing new routes to profit off the recovery southern African tourism industry after the demise of domestic counterpart airlines Mango and Comair.

The airline already offers flights to two international destinations, Mauritius and Tanzania; however it is currently developing four new routes departing from FlySafair’s hub at Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International Airport, with flights due to start in early October.

FlySafair will start offering daily flights to the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare, Zimbabwe on 2 October, as well as a 4X weekly flight service to Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport (previously known as Livingstone Airport) situated in southwestern Zambia. On 3 October, FlySafair will then commence flights to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, starting the 3X weekly operations. Finally, on 5 October, the airline will expand its destinations to Mozambique's capital Maputo International Airport, with a 4X-weekly service.

Kirby Gordon, the chief marketing officer at FlySafair told reporters that the “plans for these routes have been in the pipeline for several months now”, adding that “Tourism in Africa is definitely on the road to recovery. We hope to help play our part in growing the tourism industry both at home and abroad by connecting people through our passion for aviation.”

FlySafair’s inclusion of these new destinations will aid in making southern African countries and sites more accessible for tourist activity, a much-needed assistance after tourism plummeted during the pandemic.

FlySafair airlines has benefitted largely from the gaps in the southern African aviation industry created by the recent exits of South African Airway’s (SAA) LCC subsidiary Mango in July 2021 and privately owned Comair in May 2022, utilising the demand created by the departure of these airlines to facilitate its own commercial growth.

According to data provided by Official Airline Guide Schedules Analyser, FlySafair is offering 196,000 weekly seats across 16 routes for the week commencing Aug. 7, compared with 89,500 seats and 11 routes at this time in 2019, almost doubling the number of potential passengers.

With the new destinations, FlySafair will continue to grow whilst simultaneously promoting the tourism industry in Mozambique, Zambia, and Zimbabwe
