ZESCO Grants Covid Relief To Low-Income Houses
ZESCO has announced a new Covid-19 relief package including free electricity for selected low income families and small businesses.
Additionally, the relief package cancels all accumulated fixed tariffs charges for over 71,000 customers and temporarily suspends outstanding debts for prepaid customers.
Approximately 460,000 of ZESCO’s most disadvantaged residential customers and 19,000 small businesses will receive 100 units free units of electricity.
The electricity provider previously cancelled fixed tariff charges worth 46.3 million from 1st August after it found that a failure to pay off these accumulated debts had resulted in some customers disconnecting themselves from the grid.
ZESCO managing director Victor M. Mudende said the company had noted the severe economic and social impacts of the coronavirus pandemic on customers and sought to mitigate these effects on small businesses and low-income customers.
The new measures will run until April 2021, subject to review.
