European Delegation Boosts Mining Sector with Training

A delegation from Europe, specialising in mining geology and research, is currently in Zambia to facilitate the exchange of knowledge between Zambia and Europe on geological survey techniques.

Dr. Maria Batista, who leads the PanAfGeo team, spoke of the importance of Zambia's rich mineral resources and the need for rigorous geological surveys to maximise their economic contribution. During an interview with ZNBC in the Copperbelt Province city of Kitwe, Dr. Batista was positive about her team's ongoing collaboration with the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources to support Zambia's mining sector through training in geological survey methods.

Kitwe District Commissioner Lawrence Mwanza highlighted the significance of this training in supporting Zambia's goal of achieving three million metric tons of copper production. The country currently produces on average 800,000 tons a year, making it the second largest producer of copper in Africa. Mwanza emphasised the considerable benefits that the Copperbelt region can take from the expertise shared during these training sessions.
