CiSCA Condemns PF Tribalism

The Civil Society Constitution Agenda (CiSCA) has condemned the PF for gross displays of tribalism after a video emerged of PF cadre Chanda Nyela preaching hatred against the Bemba ethnic group.

In a statement CiSCA criticised President Lungu for failing to rebuke the PF official, calling on the president to “unequivocally denounce his senior leaders for their tribal utterances and accordingly sanction them to deter others from this vice”. 

The civil rights organisation went on to denounce the PF as the “most divisive party” in Zambia and accused the government of failing to live up to its campaign promise of improving the lives of millions of Zambians. 

In an article for the Lusaka Times, UPND Deputy Secretary General Patrick Mucheleka also criticised President Lungu for allowing such hatred to fester within his party.

“We have no doubt these PF campaigners have the blessings of Mr Lungu hismself because they have been doing the same things over and over and yet they are not being reprimanded,” he said. 

Mr Mucheleka went on to express his concern that such tribalism would corrupt young minds in Zambia.

“PF’s desperation must not be allowed to poison the minds of Zambians, especially of our younger people. They must stop setting citizens against citizens in order to win votes so that they remain in power to steal more money from public coffers. Zambians cannot be fooled anymore, they know who is corrupt and who is a thief.”
