Load Shedding Leads to Water Rationing

The continued load shedding across Zambia is now leading to a worrying water scarcity. Yesterday Mulonga Water and Sewerage Company announced enhanced rationing of water supplies due to the lack of electricity,

All company installations are dependent on electricity, and with increasingly long periods of load shedding they are unable to continue business as usually.

This will affect three districts; Chingola, Chililabombwe and Mufulira.

Citizens have been advised to try and store water in preparation for times when it will not be available.

“Arising from the lack of a consistent load shedding schedule, the company has not been in a position to establish and publish reliable water supply times. Once this is done, the company will advise its customers promptly,” Kangede said.

They have also urged Zambians to be frugal with water and report any leakages to try and reduce wastage.
