Health Sector Poorly Managed by PF – Akafumba
Speaking on the recent revelation of the lack of availability of batteries for a machine at the Livingstone University Teaching Hospital, NDC interim president Josephs Akafumba has demonstrated his dismay at the poor governance of the health sector by PF leaders.
Lack of hospital facilities was disclosed by hospital sources who asked for a senior health official to make an unannounced trip to the Teaching Hospital to understand the challenges currently faced within the health sector.
Mismanagement by the government was given as the reason for the lack of resources, according to the hospital source.
“There is high level mismanagement here as well as acute levels of staff victimisation by the administration. Imagine a teaching hospital not having Plaster of Paris (PoP), crepe bandages, x-ray films as well as even batteries for BP machines!” sources revealed.
When contacted about a possible visit, PF member of the Central Committee Anne Nyirenda Tischer said that she had already been and found a BP machine not working due to unavailability of batteries.
Speaking on the matter, Akafumba said the lack of facilities at such a high level institution was unsurprising given the current mismanagement of the health sector by the government.
“How many poor women and children have died due to lack of medicines or simple medical procedures such as BP?” he questioned.
Akafumba said he felt sorry for the hospital director, Dr Kachimba.
“I feel for Dr Kachimba because he may be sacrificed for the problems caused by the PF because the entire health sector is in an Intensive Care Unit, all because of selfish, corrupt and thieving leaders in the ruling party.”
