Lusaka Bars Cautioned For Breaking Covid-19 Restrictions

Nearly 50 bars in Lusaka have been cautioned for breaking regulations designed to prevent the spread of Covid-19. 

The bars were warned by state and city council police after continuing to conduct business, despite a presidential decree that they should remain closed until the coronavirus pandemic is alleviated.

Among the bars cautioned, Capello Pub and Grill at Lewanika Mall also had its business licence confiscated. The management have been summoned for a hearing by the Lusaka local authority. 

Lusaka City Council’s public relations manager, George Sichimba, says restaurants and liquor stores were also found to be ignoring the public health measures.

Mr Sichimba said authorities had noted most liquor stores were taking advantage of the public holiday to convert their premises into makeshift bars. 

State police intensified patrols during the long weekend in order to enforce Covid-19 measures in the capital.
