Government Releases K49.1 Billion to Fund June Public Spending

The Government has disbursed K49.1 billion during June 2026 to support the delivery of public services, meet debt obligations, protect vulnerable households, advance local development programmes, and maintain investment in key infrastructure projects.

The Ministry of Finance and National Planning said the June Treasury releases underscore the Government's commitment to sound fiscal management, sustainable debt management, social protection and long-term economic growth.

Of the total amount released, K5.5 billion was allocated to the public service wage bill and related personnel obligations.

A further K34.9 billion was directed towards servicing public debt and clearing outstanding arrears. This included the complete buyback of Bond B at a discounted cost of US$1.1 billion, a move aimed at strengthening Zambia's debt position.

Transfers, subsidies and social protection programmes received K4.2 billion. This included K1.5 billion for the Social Cash Transfer Programme, K610 million for Constituency Development Fund initiatives, and K300 million for the Food Security Pack Programme to support vulnerable farming households.

Government operations and public programmes were allocated K3 billion, including K200 million provided to the Electoral Commission of Zambia to facilitate preparations for forthcoming elections.

Capital investment accounted for K1.4 billion, with funding channelled towards the construction and rehabilitation of roads, schools, health facilities and water infrastructure.

The Treasury also released K40 million to the Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone (LS-MFEZ) to support industrial development and attract private investment. In addition, K209.7 million was allocated to geological mapping to enhance mineral exploration and unlock the country's mining potential.

Secretary to the Treasury Felix Nkulukusa said the June releases reflect the Government's resolve to uphold fiscal discipline while ensuring continued investment in programmes that directly benefit citizens.

Mr Nkulukusa said every Treasury release translates into meaningful support for households, communities and national development, adding that the June allocations reinforce confidence in Zambia's public finances while strengthening investment in social protection, education, healthcare, local development and infrastructure to improve the quality of life for Zambians.
