Health Minister Dr. Chitalu Chilufya has appointed CEO and Founder of Java Foods, Katebe Monica Musonda as Deputy Board Chairperson for the National Food and Nutrition Commission.
Musonda who is also a Corporate lawyer, and entrepreneur currently serves as non-executive director on the Boards of Airtel Networks Zambia Plc, where she is the chairperson.
She is also a board member for Zambia Sugar Plc, Dangote Industries Zambia Limited, and sits on the Global Advisory Board for Scaling Up Nutrition Business Network.
In addition she is also a recipient of the 2017 African Agribusiness Entrepreneur of the Year award.
Musonda is one of the few Zambian women involved in manufacturing and agro-processing and she holds an LL.B from the University of Zambia and another LL.M from the University of London.
The development came in following Dr Chilufya’s new announced board for the commission yesterday.
“This is in accordance with the provisions of the National Food and Nutrition Commission act, section 4, Chapter 308 of the Laws of Zambia.” Dr Chilufya said.
Other board members appointed are; Dr Jabbin Mulwanda-Permanent Secretary in charge of Health Services in the Ministry of Health, Mr Stephen Mwansa-Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Vice President; Mr Julius Shawa-Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs Nsama K Mayowe-Principal State Advocate, while Dr. Jabbin Mulwanda will serve as board chairperson.
Meanwhile, Dr Chilufya said the new board will, in the spirit of the 7th National Development Plan and National Health Strategic Plan, have the onerous task to drive policy reform in food and nutrition, which is a key tenet of a healthy and productive nation.
He further exhorted the board to craft policies that will promote good nutrition and curtail micronutrient deficiency and Non Communicable Diseases.
