Open Zambia has learned that Austria-based Patson Daka has joined the U-20 team in Spain. This selection completes the list of players coach Beston Chambeshi has summoned for FIFA World Cup Korea Republic 2017.
Daka joined the squad on Saturday evening and was received by FAZ Communications Manager Desmond Katongo and Team Manager Hastings Ndovi at the Reina Sofia Tenerife Sur Airport.
The 2017 UEFA U-21 champion told Fazfooball.com that he was excited to be back in the Zambian team set up after being on duty with his club. He said that the team would have to work as a unit to ensure that they performed well at the world cup.
Daka said he was hoping to add value to the team acknowledging that his teammates had done a lot of good work in his absence. With Daka joining camp, Chambeshi will now prepare the last stretch of the World Cup with all his players available.
The team has so far played two practice matches beating FC Tenerife 3-0 before drawing 2-all against Marino. The team is set to play Las Palmas on Monday in another friendly match.
Zambia opens its World Cup campaign against Portugal on May 21 at the Jeju World Cup stadium.
