A THIRTY-TWO YEAR-OLD man has axed his 78-year-old mother to death after a dispute.
Police have since arrested Gideon Lubeya for allegedly killing his mother, identified as Afaliya Mumba of Nyalungwe Village in Nyimba District.
Police deputy public relations officer, Rae Hamoonga said the incident occurred on Wednesday this week around 11:45 hours.
“The deceased sustained a deep cut on the head and was found lying in a pool of blood. An axe which was used in the act has since been recovered. When interviewed, the suspect claimed to have been drunk,” Mr Hamoonga said.
The suspect, who has been charged with murder, would appear in court soon. The deceased’s body was at Nyimba District Hospital Mortuary awaiting a postmortem and the suspect was treated at the hospital after being beaten by enraged members of the public.
In another development, investigations have been instituted in a case where a 35-year-old man identified as Given Chiponji, who is a third-year student at Copperbelt University had been apprehended in connection with examination malpractice after he was found writing on behalf of a first-year student identified as Sipalo Zita.
The examination took place on Thursday this week around 15:00 hours at Copperbelt University in Kitwe.
Mr Hamoonga said the suspect was in Police custody.
